What Topics Will Be Covered?
Indoor Air Quality
This workshop will teach participants the basics about addressing the full range of potential pollutants that can impact indoor air quality in homes. The session will also introduce EPA’s new indoor air quality home-labeling program â€" the new Energy Star Indoor Air Package (IAP) program. Topics include:
- controlling moisture/mold;
- reducing chemical levels;
- combustion equipment safety;
- insect barriers;
- radon resistance; and
- HVAC (equipment and ductwork, filtration and mechanical ventilation)
Ventilation Strategies
This workshop will start with a brief review of the relevance of proper ventilation in high performance homes. The various types of ventilation systems and equipment options will be outlined. Topics will include:
- Identify how mechanical ventilation is related to building science and high performance homes
- Learn to properly size ventilation and identify cost effective ventilation system options
- The HVAC impact on Indoor Air Quality â€" AC sizing, dehumidification, ventilation, filtration, duct sealing, return air issues, combustion venting, fireplaces, alarm systems
- HVAC contractors will learn the specifics of ventilation needs for high performance homes
- Identify the benefits of ventilation to the builder and homebuyers and demonstrate the cost effectiveness of ventilation options.
